To say we have some less than perfect days at Farmgirl would be a gigantic understatement. After all, deadlines take on a whole new meaning when perishability is involved, topped off by needing to depend on Mother Nature, who turns out is more fickle than you'd think (um...especially lately), having to rely on a super expensive third party shipping partner to deliver our precious cargo on time (both inbound and outbound of course!), and don't get us started on the challenges of scaling a high growth manufacturing operation in the most expensive city in the country. But whatever the challenge, we pull it together, come together as a team, and do our best to knock it out of the park. And in spite of what feels like constant setbacks (isn’t that the name of the game in operations?), every once in a while something really terrible happens that puts our woes in perspective. This is one of those times.
For the past few weeks, a few of our amazing farm partners down in Quito, Ecuador have had decades worth of bad days (multiplied by thousands) compressed into weeks. While there’s not a lot being described on American news channels, Ecuador needed to declare a state of emergency after a series of austerity measures caused widespread protest and political unrest in the country. This resulted in a very dangerous situation, both physically for them personally and economically with lost revenues, destruction of property, and lost trust by some of their customers.
In spite of enormous personal and financial hardship, these farms worked incredibly hard to continue to supply us (and, in turn, you) with the beautiful cut stems we’ve come to depend on them for since beginning international sourcing in 2017. We’ve been in awe of their dedication to their customers, and to their work even when their personal safety has been at risk. And while, thankfully, they and their families are safe, irreparable damage and loss of business has been one of the harsh realities to come out of the current unstable political climate.
There's not much we can say that will adequately convey the distress caused to these farm partners, and friends, over the past few weeks. But while we’re at a loss for words, we are confident we can show our support and encouragement the best way we’ve learned since starting Farmgirl: by voting with our dollars. This month and the next we’ve created two special “With Heart” products that will benefit these two farms, Agrogana and Agrocoex. $10.00 of the purchase price of this item will go directly to them to help them recoup the losses incurred by the recent unrest and to help them continue to ensure the livelihood of their employees and their loved ones.

How Do We Ship It?
The Fine Print
Our promise to you and your recipient is to always ship the freshest, highest quality stems we can source from our growers. In order to stay committed to quality (and because we work with Mother Nature) this occasionally may mean we need to make a substitution for color and even flower choice. Please note that while we cannot guarantee the exact color or what the exact flower varieties will be, we do guarantee that your specific blooms will be fresh, beautiful, and that you or your recipient will love it!
*San Francisco residents? Local orders are delivered by delivery service providers (FedEx or UPS) and will be boxed.
