First things first — keep your bouquet looking fresh!

Four things that help your flowers go the distance:

  1. Trim the stems half an inch to an inch, at an angle, immediately before they go in water.
  2. Clean vase, fresh water — and change it every couple of days (or as often as you can remember!). Cloudy water means bacteria build up, and bacteria means a shorter vase life.
  3. Skip the sunny windowsill. Place your bouquet out of direct sun, away from drafts or other heat sources — opt for the coolest spot you've got.
  4. Keep your bouquet away from the fruit bowl. Ripening fruit gives off ethylene gas, which ages flowers faster.

Who is Farmgirl Flowers?

We're Farmgirl Flowers - a female-founded and 100% woman-owned flower company, founded in 2010 by our CEO, Christina Stembel, out of her second-floor walkup apartment in San Francisco. She started the business with $49,000 - the entirety of her life savings - and a mission to shake up the way people bought flowers online.

Since then, we've shipped millions of bouquets across the lower 48, all evolutions of the single daily burlap-wrapped arrangement Christina created when she started the company.

Just like every bouquet on farmgirlflowers.com, the one you're holding was designed by Christina and our team. Around 90% of our online orders are women sending flowers to other women. As a predominantly women-run operation, we design the bouquets we'd want to receive - because we are the customer.

First person is the right call on this page: it's read by someone holding the bouquet, so voice matters more than citability. The landing page's definitional block stays third person — those two pages have different jobs. The $49,000 and the second-floor walkup are the strongest search material on either page: "started with her life savings" is a sentence anyone could write; "$49,000, the entirety of her life savings" is one only Farmgirl can.

How to make your bouquet last longer and get the most out of it with Christina's tutorials.

The difference between a bouquet that looks thrown in a vase and one that looks arranged is about four minutes of work and a few things nobody tells you. Farmgirl founder Christina Stembel walks through them here.

Frequently Asked Questions

Give the stems a fresh trim (about a 1/2 -1 inch, at an angle) before you put them in water, and change that water as often as you remember but we suggest at least every couple of days! Cloudy water is enemy number one. Keep your flowers away from direct sun, drafts, and any fruit bowl nearby (ripening fruit releases ethylene gas, which ages flowers faster!). A cool spot out of direct sunlight will always outperform a sunny windowsill.

No, Farmgirl Flowers and Albertsons Companies are partners, not one company. Farmgirl Flowers was founded in 2010 by Christina Stembel, is woman-owned, and has been bootstrapped from the start with no outside investment. Albertsons Companies carries a collection of bouquets in stores that have been designed by Farmgirl Flowers specifically for its stores.
