An Ounce of Prevention

In general, we don’t take ourselves too seriously here at Farmgirl. After all, as we like to say, at the end of the day it’s just flowers. But there are some causes that we’d never joke about, and breast cancer is one of them.

Statistics around diagnosis state that one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. Next to lung cancer,  breast cancer is also the second most common cause of death from cancer in the United States. And while there are many, many incredible organizations working towards a cure for this disease, there are fewer that are addressing what we know to be the factors that make a diagnosis more probable. Certain chemicals found in the items we use everyday, from beauty products to cleaning supplies, have been linked to increased risk for breast cancer. This month, we’re happy to partner with Breast Cancer Prevention Partners (BCPP),an organization that works to transform how we think about and use chemicals and radiation, their effects on our health and how we can work to prevent breast cancer. $5.00 of the purchase price of this product will be donated to BCPP and their prevention efforts.

Details, Details, Details

  • “An Ounce of Prevention” is a living 6” anthurium plant. Measurement refers to the diameter of the soil in which the plant lives - actual plant stands between 10” and 16” in height.
  • Anthurium ships in a decorative, hand-carved ceramic vase we’ve included in the shipment.
  • Vessel is designed by artist Jessica Hiemstra and features abstracted anatomical details.

How Do We Ship It?

  • Your new plant pal comes rolled in bubble wrap, sturdy butcher paper and boxed for safe transit to you or your recipient in the lower 48.*
  • Shipment includes a care card with all of Farmgirl’s top tips and tricks for anthurium care.

Care 101

  • Anthuriums are tropical by nature and thrive in more muggy climates. Is your space on the dry side? Misting your anthurium every few days, especially in the morning, will help to replicate a happily humid environment.
  • Anthurium prefer bright, indirect light. Caution: direct light will burn your new plant pal. Keep it at least a few feet away from any sunny windows.
  • Establish a watering schedule that allows the top portion of the soil to dry out completely in between hydration sessions. Start with ¼ to ½ cup of water once a week and adjust as needed!

The Fine Print

Pictures shown are a recent example of an actual plant pal that we sent out to a customer just like you! Please note that substitutions may be made for the plant variety or vessel in the event they become unavailable after purchase, but we do guarantee that your specific plant will be fresh, beautiful and that you or your recipient will love it!
