Eeny Meeny Miny Moe – How the heck to pick from all the beautiful Farmgirl bouquets?!

When we started Farmgirl way back in 2010 (from Christina’s teeny tiny SF apartment), we launched with one daily bouquet. So picking the perfect gift was suuuuper easy back then. We heard from a lot of you that, while you loved our daily bouquet, one size fits all didn’t always fit the bill with the occasion you were shopping for when considering online flower delivery. So, we listened, and now still try to keep it easy with far less options than many of our counterparts (because who really wants to sort through that many options?), but have more than a single daily bouquet. So now we get asked for tips on how to pick the perfect floral gift for any occasion, which we know can be a daunting task. Fear not though! We've gathered some blooming good tips (see what we did there ;) ) to help you navigate the magical world of bouquets with ease. So, without further ado, here’s our tried and true tips for picking the perfect bouquet!

Know the occasion. Different occasions call for different blooms. For a romantic gesture, a classic rose bouquet, armful of ranunculus, or our extra large-and-in-charge Fancy Pants burlap wrapped flower arrangement can speak volumes (quite literally!). For a cheerful pick-me-up, sunflowers, daisies, or tulips are a delightful choice! A somber occasion might call for one of our neutral Minimalist bouquets, lilies, or white garden roses. The trick is tailoring your selection to the message you want to convey.

Seems obvious, but really consider the recipient. Think about the person you're gifting the flowers to. What are their favorite colors or blooms? Do you normally see them wear neutral colors or do they opt for more colorful ensembles? Is their house filled with calming neutrals and pastels or bold patterns and colors? Choosing flowers that resonate with your loved one personally shows you really get them, and who doesn’t want to feel that way? When in doubt with flowers, our go-to is our Just Right Burlap Wrapped Bouquet (hence the name!) as it really is “just right” for just about any occasion, and you can always include an add-on sweet or treat that might be easier to tailor to the recipient. For instance, if you know they’re a choco-holic, add some chocolates, or someone who loves a good spa day? A candle add-on might be just the thing. Go Seasonal. Similar to how eating a tomato in December often tastes like what you’d think eating stale cardboard might taste like, opting for flowers that are in season will prevent the floral equivalent of this from happening too! Not only will they be fresher and more vibrant, but they'll also be more affordable (double win huh?!). Embrace the beauty of each season with flowers that reflect that season’s unique charm. When in doubt - send Peonies in June. Last we checked, they’re over 90% of our customer’s favorite flower which gives you a pretty good shot of guessing correctly!

Go OTT with symbolism. Did you know there’s an actual language of flowers? It’s a bit out of date now, but still fun to play with to show extra care with your flowers. For example, red roses symbolize love and passion, ranunculus symbolize charm and attraction, and tulips represent deep love and perfection. Have some fun and go a little OTT (yeah, you know us…) and choose blooms that convey the sentiment you want to express with your floral gift!

Presentation, presentation, presentation! We all know by now that packaging matters… like really matters! And flowers are no exception. I’m constantly amazed when ordering from new hip D2C companies with snazzy marketing and branding when their product looks like it’s just kept in the original manufacturing packaging and then flung haphazardly into a box. We’ve worked hard to ensure that’s never the experience you’ll have when you order Farmgirl's flower delivery, but it doesn’t need to be even when you pick up some blooms from your local market or grocery store. Just add some kraft butcher wrap from the deli or tissue paper from the stationary section and remove the cellophane and gift it a quick burrito wrap in the kraft or tissue and tie with a ribbon and your recipient will love it 10x more, we promise! 

Get creative with the card. Trust us, we read A LOT of cards at Farmgirl, and just based on how many conversations we have internally about the recipient messages (don’t worry, we’re not too judgy - promise!), it shows how important a heartfelt message is to the gifting experience. We can all recite our favorites and they’re never the generic “Love you babe” that we see included time and time again every Feb 14th. Add a few minutes in to pen some more personal, humorous, and/or loving words that will leave your recipient feeling all the feels! Trust us, it’s worth the extra 3 minutes! 

Trust your gut! Trust us, we know a thing or two about (a woman’s) intuition. If a particular bouquet speaks to you, chances are it will resonate with your recipient as well. Trust your instincts and know you’re about to make someone’s entire day with the gift you’re sending!
